If that does not work or work well enough try spraying directly on the stain and rubbing with the paper towel. Wash with clean water and dry with a soft cloth to finish the process. Sanding is the number one way to remove paint from wood paneling. If you prefer to remove the paint entirely as opposed to painting over it use a paint scraper to peel off the remaining unwanted paint. Wring out the cloth so that it s not overly saturated. Use a dry rag or one of those magic sponges that can remove some stains and scuff marks without water or detergent.

If the ink or dye is fresh then you may be able to remove it using just a clean damp cloth. Brush or vacuum away the sanding dust. Many interior wood stains and deck stains are formulated with pigment or dye. Use a sponge to clean the area.

Rub gently in a circular motion and see if the stain comes off. Mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid and warm water in a medium sized bowl. Try to wipe the dye or ink away in one motion and then go back over the spot with a clean section of the cloth. Strip the paint if you want to remove it entirely.
