Step 1 measure the area begin by measuring out the area on your pitched roof where you want the cupola to go.
How to install a cupola on a pitched roof.
Place the roof pitch tool flat against the cut of the roof ridge.
Determine your roof pitch screw two boards together so they pivot.
Straddle the roof with each board as shown making sure each side is flat against the roof and the center is at the center of the peak.
Using a pencil or marker draw on the pitch tool to mark the angle that will be used to determine the edge of the cupola base.
The pitch tool will serve as a cutting template.
Make sure that the tool is centered.
Mark the centerline on the cupola and align the angle finder.
Use an angle finder to measure the pitch of your hinge tool then position it against the cupola base.
Standard cupola installation guide.
Form a pattern by marking the boards then trace that pattern on the base of your cupola.
Cut the angle with a jigsaw.
Press the angle finder tightly to the shingles and then insert a second screw to hold it tight locking the angle in place.
Scribe the roof pitch on the cupola.
Since roofs have all different pitch angles the manufacturer leaves it up to the installer that s you to cut it down to size.
Try to place the cupola over the roof rather than the gable ends which will have fewer beams to distribute the weight.
There s a great video of how to install a cupola on a pitched roof.
All you need are two boards and a screw.
Make sure that this position is easy to reach by ladder and where the cupola will be supported by enough roof beams.
