After completing one side follow the same process on the other side. You require overlapping shingles at the top of roof where both sides met. Lay asphalt felt paper or special waterproof underlayment such as a self healing membrane over the roof. Install new flashing metal.

Overlap layouts are also included with the roof. Before you install your first shingle use your utility knife to cut 6 inches off of the side then lay it on your roof allowing the architectural shingles to hang between 1 2 to 2 inches over the edge. Place a whole shingle next to it. Nail down the shingles as you go along.

Apply a cover of starter architectural shingles. Architectural roof shingles and tabbed shingles are both roof shingles but when it comes to nails they are different. Start installing at the outer and lower edge of your roof. Lay the next row of shingles directly on top of the first row making the row two tiles thick.

Using your staple gun secure the felt to the roof. Depending on your budget and desired outcome you may want to go with a standard 3 tab shingle or you may be interested in a more eye catching architectural shingle. If you live in an area with inclement weather you should consider using a special ice and water protector. Overlap each row at least 3 to 4 inches.

Put on the nails so that shingles are firmly in place. Start by laying asphalt felt or other underlayment over the roof. When laying the shingles for the top row cut 6 inches 15 2 centimeters from the first shingle in the left corner of the roof using the utility knife.
