How to level a door hinge.
As your house settles you may need to adjust the storm door frame.
Hold the bubble level against the door jamb s left and right sides and top and check to see if the bubble settles between the viewer s two lines.
The storm door frame mounts inside the wooden door frame opening on your home.
This will move the doors up or down a quarter of an inch to level the doors at the top.
When the wood expands and contracts it can cause the frame to become uneven.
For instance if the space between the door and the frame is smaller at the top of the door then you ll need to add.
See if the door and frame are level.
Lay a level along the outer edge of your door.
It leaves you with a large screwhead hole to cover.
The angle is likely slight so look closely at the bubble in the level.
Install shims behind other hinges if necessary.
Set two or three cardboard shims in the hinge mortises on the door and jamb then replace the hinge.
Fixing an uneven storm door frame may be as easy as installing shims behind the door hinges.
Look for places where the spacing is uneven such as near the top or the bottom of the door to figure out which hinge needs to be shimmed.
Next using the same hand screwdriver adjust the screw that s facing the center style of the cabinet.
By driving a long screw through the latch side of the jamb rather than the hinge side you can often draw in the jamb and give the door a little extra space.
Close the door and check the spacing.
