The doors are 6 4 high and i have bought 6 6 panelled doors to replace them from howdens.
How to cut opemimg in 6 panel door.
Maybe replace an old door and it just won t fit.
For the door i am cutting into our goal was to get as close to the edge of the panel opening as possible and keep it as straight along that edge without cutting outside the panel.
The hole in the scrap wood.
Cut a jigsaw blade down to lengh so that when cutting the tip of the blade just misses the high point of the panel below as you can see only one skin of the door can be cut at a time because when the doors are manufactured the panels are not aligned could also be cut out with a tenon saw.
Cut the pegs about an inch longer than the thickness of the door and taper them smoothly for at least 1 4 at one end to make them easier to drive in and to reduce the chance of splintering.
You can further reduce splintering by placing a piece of scrap wood with a hole drilled in it directly under the mortise hole.
The festool track saw made this really really easy we just used a square to set the cutting edge of the track and made sure the blade depth was enough for the recess.
Do i cut 1 of the top and bottom or 2 off the bottom.
Or you cold hinge each side to open opposite each other.
The doors i am replaceing are 2 6 wide so no problem there.
Need a creative solution.
